Summary of Job Duties:
- The Director of Utility Operations is responsible for overall strategic management oversight and financial performance of the Campus District Utilities and Building & Plant Controls Division of Facilities Management. This includes strategic oversight of utility plant production and distribution, power distribution, building and plant controls, fume hoods, energy management and utility metering and billing. Directly responsible for utility infrastructure capital planning and funding, and the utility system capital renewal program.
- Directly supervises two professional and two classified staff.
- Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related discipline) or a closely related field of study.
- Six years or more of applicable experience with no less than six years of supervisory experience.
- Registration as a professional engineer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, LEED AP, Certified Facilities Management Professional.
- Experience in higher education utility operations or energy management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of utility plant production and distribution.
- Knowledge of utility infrastructure capital planning and funding.
- Knowledge of a capital renewal program
- Knowledge of utility cost budgeting and utility rate development.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally & written not only with staff, but with deans, directors, department heads, vice chancellors & faculty, etc.
