This is your president again. Hope you are enjoying the Fall season, it's my favorite time of the year. This month we had our annual membership kick-off event and for the first time ever we offered an in-person as well as virtual option. We had a great turnout for both of them. You can check out some snippets below. At the in-person kickoff at Erwin Orchard's, we had the pleasure to meet some past SWE presidents and members after a long time along with many familiar faces. U of M students showed up in great numbers and I look forward to strengthening our partnership with them under Silvia Karlsson's leadership as Collegiate relations chair. The virtual session had some fun activities allowing our members the flexibility to still be able to attend from home. Huge shout out to Briana Phibbs, Sreya Vedant, Jennifer Jensen and the planning team from our membership committee for working hard on putting these two events together.
SWE Detroit received its charter from the Society in June of 1952, just over 2 years after SWE became a formal national organization making SWE Detroit the 8th SWE section in the United States.
This just amazes me. What organization are you a part of that is almost as old as the national one? To be a part of something so perfectly aged and still positively contributing in massive ways?
Hi! I am Amanda Mohan, your past president for FY22 and 70th anniversary committee lead. My goal this year is to share and celebrate with all of you the awesomeness of SWE Detroit, past present and future. This year marks our 70th anniversary and I think the organization and you deserve to celebrate this birthday all year long and not just in June of 2022. So join me and your fellow SWE Detroiters in making this the best birthday and year yet!
Stay tuned for celebration events, giveaways, trivia, and fun as we celebrate 70 years of SWE Detroit!
Thank you,
Nikita Tiwari
